Lauded as the queen of Mandopop, Stefanie Sun Yanzi (孙燕姿) is undisputedly one of Singapore’s most successful pop music exports. Since making her debut in year 2000, Stefanie has brought her music all over the world, and currently has 13 albums under her belt. In the course of her 18-year career, Stefanie has won more than 200 awards throughout the region, notably the Best Newcomer (2001), Best Mandarin Female Singer (2005) in Taiwan’s Golden Melody Awards (the equivalent of the Grammy Awards for Mandarin pop music) and the Singapore Youth Award for Arts & Culture (2007) – the nation’s highest accolade that honours exceptional young people who enrich the community and bring distinction to the nation.
Since her It’s Time (是時候) album, she began taking on the role of producer, and continued so in her subsequent albums, Kepler (克卜勒) and No. 13: A Dancing Van Gogh (No. 13作品：跳舞的梵谷). Not one to rest on her laurels, Stefanie took up painting in her free time and discovered her passion (and flair, according to many) for it, little did she know that her works would later be displayed in an exhibition held in conjunction with the launch of No. 13: A Dancing Van Gogh. This latest album also saw her directorial debut for the music video of the title track, A Dancing Van Gogh, in which Stefanie conceptualized, scripted and acted in.
To date, Stefanie has sold more than 30 million records worldwide. With 13 albums and more than 50 sellout world tour stops under her belt, she is often a favoured choice for ambassadorships and endorsements for renowned brands, including Singapore Tourism Board, MacDonald’s, Adidas, GNC and World Vision etc.
Stefanie is also a strong advocate for community work and social causes. During her stint as an ambassador for World Vision, she visited Calcutta, Congo and Niger, as part of their public awareness and fund-raising campaigns. Stefanie was also appointed the Goodwill Ambassador for Mercy Relief. In 2005, she visited Aceh after the tsunami and in 2008 and 2009, she went to Sichuan as part of the disaster relief team for the Wenzhou earthquake.
Stefanie’s 20th anniversary concert tour is slated to kickstart in 2020.
